Mahathma Gandhi(Bapu)

Our Country was being ruled by many people of foreign origin and the last of them were British. They came to India as merchants. Since they were more interested in the wealth of their country, large number of Indians wanted to drive them away. Most of them waged war against them. But none of them succeeded. Then a young lawyer called Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi at the scene. He said the only way to drive them out was by means of non violence. By civil disobedience movements (sathyagraha) he was able to make them leave our country. He lead a life of a poor man and preferred to stay in a hut rather than in palaces. The grateful nation called him “Mahatma (Great soul)” and the common man called him “Bapu”. After independence, he was shot dead by a fanatic called Godse.
